Milkweed
Hi there!
Milkweed refers to the herbaceous, perennial, flowering plants of the genus Asclepias,
which comes from Asclepius – the Greek god of healing. This is a little misleading considering that most milkweeds are toxic to people and animals.
However, some species do feed on these plants, such as the notable Monarch butterfly. These plants form beautiful, complex flowers and have a unique pollination process.
Appendages of visiting insects often slip into the stigmatic slit, formed by the anthers.
In its struggle for freedom, the insect will either be large enough to pull out, taking the pollen sacs with it, or it will be trapped until its eventual death.
Oh, you wanted to know about me?
Well...
Its difficult for me to find the right words that accurately depict myself without revealing too much information. I was born in the year 2000 near the Chattahoochee river, but my life choices have brought me to an island in the Pacific. I have a deep appreciation of nature and enjoy taking long walks, collecting trinkets, and looking at the moon. There's a couple of ideas bouncing around in my brain about what to do with this website, but I am limited in my coding ability. Please bare with me as I am still learning.
